Aaron Faulls from LiquidAssets.tv and host of Into the Drink spends a weekend with the Boston Sea Rovers at their 55th Annual Clinic March 6-8, 2009. Follow Aaron as he talks to the legendary personalities that have made this America’s most prestigious, venerable scuba diving event.

The Boston Sea Rovers are a 501C3 not for profit volunteer organization dedicated to increasing awareness and appreciation of the marine environment. They are one of the oldest and most distinguished underwater clubs in America, and have a worldwide reputation of excellence. While the membership has changed repeatedly over the years, they still hold true to a pledge that was inspired in 1954, and remain dedicated to “Raising the Level of Knowledge of the Underwater World”. In order to achieve this lofty goal, the early members of the club designed and invented the first underwater film show available to the general public. They called that first production a Clinic, and have held the event every year since.

This year marks the 56th anniversary of the annual Boston Sea Rover’s Clinic.  In celebration, world-famous ocean explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle will host an exclusive Boston Sea Rovers Saturday Evening Film Festival at the New England Aquarium’s Simons IMAX Theater on March 6, 2010. The Sea Rovers’ underwater film festival is legendary, and this year’s show will be among the most memorable in history. In addition to Dr. Earle, this year’s incredible lineup includes: underwater cinematographer Michael Pitts, who will be sharing footage taken from “Life,” the BBC’s latest natural history series; filmmaker and explorer Wes Skiles, who promises keep you on the edge of your seat with exhilarating footage of cave expeditions; ocean activist Philippe Cousteau, Jr., grandson of Jacques Yves Cousteau, with footage from his latest projects; and Dr. Greg Skomal, who will present the results of his studies of the recently discovered great white shark population off of Cape Cod. The evening will also include an after-show reception aboard the 175-foot-long Motor Vessel Majesty, which will be moored alongside the Aquarium. The Sea Rovers’ underwater film festival is legendary, and this year’s show will be among the most memorable in history.

Over the past five and a half decades, the goal of the Sea Rovers has always been to bring the best and the brightest talents of the ocean and diving community together in Boston for a weekend event focused on education, entertainment and enlightenment.  While 2010 will mark our 56th clinic, it will also be an exciting transition year for the Sea Rovers.  Throughout our rich history the clinic’s format has been reinvented several times in order to better serve the club’s mission. As times are changing, so are we. We will unveil our brand new venue and clinic format for the 2011 clinic and beyond at this year’s exclusive film-festival event!
